Qxf7 is mate because the bishop on c4 defends the queen: the king cannot take, cannot block a contact check, and has no free square.
f7 (and f2 for White) is the weakest square on the board in the opening — only the king defends it. This is the trap behind Scholar’s Mate, and the reason 2...Nc6 alone doesn’t hold the position together.
An early queen sortie is a double-edged bet. It wins games against opponents who have never seen the pattern and loses time against everyone else — after ...g6 or ...Qe7 the queen has to move again while Black develops with tempo.
